State Rep. Leonard Christian, R-Spokane Valley, took the oath of office today to represent the 4th Legislative District. The ceremony occurred at noon in the House of Representatives on the first day of the scheduled 105-day session.
“It’s an honor to represent the great people of the 4th District,” said Christian. “I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work finding real solutions to the many problems facing our state.”
A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Christian held many roles in the military during his 21 years of service, including as an aircraft mechanic and security specialist. He is a real estate agent in Spokane Valley and was previously appointed to serve the remainder of Rep. Larry Crouse’s term when Crouse vacated the 4th District seat in 2014. Christian lives with his wife in Spokane Valley. They have two children.
The 4th District lawmaker will serve on three House committees:
- State Government and Tribal Relations (Assistant Ranking Member)
- Capital Budget
- Innovation, Community Economic Development and Veterans
Christian will serve as the assistant ranking member for the House State Government and Tribal Relations Committee. This committee considers a broad array of issues relating to state government, including state agency structure, rulemaking, procurement standards, performance audits, state information technology, and public employment.
The committee also considers issues relating to elections, campaign finance, public disclosure, ethics in government, and the government-to-government relationship between the state and Indian tribes.
“As the new assistant ranking member on the House State Government and Tribal Relations Committee, I am excited for the opportunity to make our state government more responsive to the needs of our citizens,” said Christian.
